Both leave you with beautiful gel-polished nails, so what's the actual difference between a Russian manicure and a regular gel manicure, and which is worth booking? Here's the honest comparison.
The technique difference
A gel manicure ($45 at Hello Bailey) includes detailed nail shaping, cuticle trimming, and premium Japanese and Korean gel polish. A Russian manicure ($85) goes much further on the prep: your nail artist uses a precision e-file to gently lift and remove the entire cuticle layer, creating a perfectly clean nail plate all the way to the skin line.
Why the Russian manicure lasts longer
Because polish is applied over a flawlessly prepped surface and tucked right up to the cuticle line, a Russian manicure grows out cleaner and typically lasts 3 to 4 weeks without lifting, versus 2 to 3 weeks for a standard gel. The crisp cuticle line is also what makes it photograph so well.
Which should you choose?
Choose the gel manicure for a quick, polished refresh at a friendly price. Choose the Russian manicure if you want the longest-lasting, most detailed result, if your cuticles grow fast, or if you simply want the cleanest possible finish. Want extra length? Our Gel-X manicure ($65) adds lightweight soft-gel extensions.
